Job summary

CSE is seeking students to assist the Human Resources Group in support of the different disciples such as Staffing and Recruitment, Labor Relations, Classification. Here is a list of some of the activities to be performed within the various teams:

  1. Staffing and Recruitment
    • Provide advice, guidance, and support to hiring managers in identifying current and future staffing needs.
    • Ensure that methods utilized to staff positions are based on HR principles such as fairness, equity, and transparency.
    • Develop HR tools and procedures to ensure an efficient HR service delivery to clients.
    • Research innovative ways to recruit resources.
  2. Classification
    • Provide classification advice and information to clients and participate in project teams and work groups (e.g., drafting of model descriptions).
    • Research and analyze human resources policy and service delivery issues, maintain statistics and related reports.
    • Contribute to the development of training materials and coordinates and assists in the presentation of information and training sessions.
  3. Learning and Development
    • Contribute to the planning of activities and programs for learning and career development.
    • Assist in the coordination of learning activities.
    • Conduct research and analysis related to learning and career development (could include analyzing data, consulting with clients and partners, preparing documentation etc.).
  4. Labour Relations and Negotiations
    • Provide basic advice, guidance, and recommendation to CSE managers and supervisor on the interpretation of the collective agreement.
    • Conduct research and analysis related to labor relations issues (analyzing data, jurisprudence, statistic, consulting with clients and partners, preparing documentation etc.).
    • Provide administrative support related to Labor Relations (exclusion, leave without pay process, essential services).
  5. Human Resources Information Systems
    • Student are needed to work in Human Resources (HR) in the area of Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS), mainly PeopleSoft (PS). HR is currently using Oracle’s PeopleSoft HR Management System which is the official system of record for human resources information. In the near future, CSE (as the whole Government of Canada) is preparing to move to a new version. The candidate must like to work with systems/technology and must want to learn PeopleSoft.

Location

The majority of our jobs are in Ottawa, Ontario. CSE has two accessible facilities. Flexible work arrangements, including telework for a portion of the work week, may be possible.

A valid Enhanced Reliability Status (ERS) or an Enhanced Top Secret (ETS) security clearance is a condition of employment that must be met before an offer can be made.

Education

You must be registered as a full-time student in a recognized post-secondary program in a field related to the position, such as (but not limited to) business administration, human resources, or public administration.

 

Note: The educational program must be recognized in Canada, and you must be able to provide a transcript from your most recent term. Students graduating prior to, or during, the work term are not eligible to apply.
